Attitude Hat - New Colourway!

The Hat with Attitude.

Great for those with dreads, as well as those without, perfect for a bad-hair day. Have fun - that's what it's all about..... Don't try to hide though, because with this hat you will be found!

This Attitude Hat is full of vibrant rich colors.. greens, violets, raspberry and russet brown.. a turbulent mix! This is insanely beautiful stuff, exquisitely hand dyed. It is handknit by me and is hand dyed wool. The hat can be worn any way you want... any colour showing up front, piled up on your head, dragged to the side or with all your hair tucked up inside. It's up to you!

It's your Attitude to fit your mood! Also.. .there is a lot of room for you to squoosh those dreads, or extra long hair, up into the hat, if you want to :)

It measures approx. 10.5" (26.7 cm) when laid flat and approx. 13" (33 cm) when stretched out. Because of its construction, it can be worn by a variety of head sizes. But please, measure your head by using a measuring tape around your crown, going around the largest part of your head. For reference only, the mannequin head circumference is 21" (53.3 cm). All hats made from this colourway will have the exact same colours, but placement will vary.

This is a one of a kind... you wont see anyone else walking around with this on... The only pre-requisite to wearing this hat is that you do it with ATTITUDE!

Sometimes you just got to get the YA YA's out...

This is a frantic time of year for me. That being said, it is also the time of year that I crave making my more Wearable Art pieces. Of course this urge occurs between the frantic-ness of the season, the craziness of everything else going on. Go figure..... There comes a space... it happens when I have done all I can with existing things, procrastinated enough (cleaned off my work table, done the dishes and ambled around complaining about not having enough coffee).... then comes the 'breather space'. It all gels. It all comes together. My fingers do what they are told, my juices are flowing, nothing intrudes, the music sounds good, the colors reflect correctly, there is some peace in my mind (the gremlins have quieted down a bit) and voila'... a creation takes shape, calls to me, comes to fruition.

Please meet Art For Your Head "Evocateur"

Looking for Artists who create Wearable Art

I've been given the wonderful opportunity of putting together a Wearable Art Market on 1000Markets. If you do not know about 1000Markets... please come take a look. http://1000Markets.com

Their concept is unique and fresh. " Markets are Communities: A market is a collection of merchants, joined together by interest, similar products, or geography. Just like a cluster of stands at an outdoor festival, a market is a gathering place. More than anything, markets are about creating community from commerce. "

The site is a somewhat juried site. My gut tells me this is someplace that is going to go places and will be a benefit to those of us that sell online.

I am looking for artists who create Wearable Art. Please drop me a note, either here or via email if you might be interested. There are plenty of you here that I admire, so please.... if you are looking for another avenue to show your items and would like to be a part of a new, growing environment... please let me know.

Two Things.....

1. I am going to recommend something very highly. For those of you that enjoy shopping online and for those of you that sell online..... please come visit
1000 Markets. A beautiful place to both shop and to sell. And, that is something that you don't find everywhere on the internet.

For me, the originating concept of this place is what it is all about:

We are a community of marketplaces...
"Our markets are more than just collections of products; they are full of people and stories. They have voices and personalities.
Our merchants are small, independent, artisan businesses built by people who love their craft. They make and sell unique products, based on their own vision, personality and story. Working together, these artisans create marketplace communities - gathering places where merchants can exchange ideas, and customers can browse and talk.
Our markets are large and small, broad and narrow. Some have themes, like food, crafts, or art. Others cultivate a sense of place around a region. And some exist simply because the people in them share friendship or common values. Each market fosters its own one-of-a-kind community, always unique and interesting."

If this concept intriques you, makes you feel good, or you are just curious............please take a look......... 1000 Markets

Willing to try something.....??

I am not one to usually try something like this... but let's give it a go, shall we?

CALL FOR ARTISTS!

I would like to feature some artists on this blog. Artists of my choosing, who would answer questions of my choice (just a couple) and provide me with a quality pic (or two or maybe even 3) of their work, along with a statement regarding how you view your own work (or some other topic, of your own choice).

The two things that I ask for are:

1. You need to feel that your item is not 'just a craft or hobby', (you do not have to be 'selling' your items)

and

2. You need to provide me with a link to another artist who YOU admire.

ok? anyone want to give it a shot? If you do.... leave me a note here, along with a link to YOUR website, blog or store and I will come visiting. To those that I pick, I will send you an email with a few questions and ask for your responses, along with a link to one of your favs.

This could be fun.... and who knows what we can turn up?

A Man of Many Talents

My husband .....I want to blog about him...........

recently he has been on a journey with his own art. Though he has been a painter (and photographer) for many many years, he is just now learning to 'just paint'. He and I work very differently. It is one of the things that attracts us so greatly to each other.

We admire each others work, but i believe we also admire how each of us works. I use 'seat of the pants' technology and he actually, really knows what he is doing. I jump with both feet and grab everything that is near me on the way in. He plans, decides, utilizes and then commences action. I turn the container over and sprinkle the spice, he will use a measuring spoon. Understand?

We have both learned so much from each other. I've learned to temper my running amuck, somewhat. He has learned to take leaps of faith. This is what comes from his 'just painting' for painting sake.

"Birds Before the Storm" (Acrylic on Canvas)

Please take a peek at some of his work, AND LEAVE SOME COMMENTS. I am sure it would feel very good to him to know that people have thoughts about the things he does.

  • Some of his photography, painting and blog writings (which in themselves are a key to this man) can be seen here: WBEckertStudio.blogspot.com

Fiber Focus, Soleyne.com & Progress

I came home yesterday to some pretty wonderful things................

Firstly.......... was this: http://fiberfocus.blogspot.com/ and please, while you are there, take a look thru her blog.... she is an incredible writer, always has something interesting to discuss and tell about and has a great group of people here at Fiber Focus ( http://fiberfocus.ning.com/ ).... the other good thing is that her name is Rachel. A very good name indeed :)

Secondly, i received a handful of postcard flyers that are making their way to interested parties as we speak. SOLEYNE ( http://soleyne.com/ ) is a new website, that just finished up its beta testing and seems to be very promising. The mechanisms they had in place during the beta testing were good, the money they've spent to move this project forward seems appreciable, and they are already advertising. This postcard flyer is currently being disbursed at at juried art festival in Tarrytown, New York at Lyndhurst Castle. Please, if you are at all interested in this site, sign up for notification of its doors opening. You can do that at http://soleyne.com/

(front) (back)

ok.... here is the progress on the new Art For Your Head piece, that i featured in the September 7, 2008 entry below.

The first pic shows the back and what i am needle felting into the shapes i want.... i am adding silk in a handdyed green and coral colourway. I want this to be a very 3 dimensional piece. The second pic is showing some of the beadword, (currently strung and pinned on)... i do this so that i can see where i want it to lay and how i want it to travel.... same with the front of the hat.

I wasnt happy with what it was, but yesterday she called to me........... and she will be fine :) after re-working, i am now content with the shape and have started working on the details.... the ripples, the dents, the layers........... i am pleased with the thought of this on a head........... for me.......... this is where it starts...........

Two new ones :
