Fiber Focus, Soleyne.com & Progress

I came home yesterday to some pretty wonderful things................

Firstly.......... was this: http://fiberfocus.blogspot.com/ and please, while you are there, take a look thru her blog.... she is an incredible writer, always has something interesting to discuss and tell about and has a great group of people here at Fiber Focus ( http://fiberfocus.ning.com/ ).... the other good thing is that her name is Rachel. A very good name indeed :)

Secondly, i received a handful of postcard flyers that are making their way to interested parties as we speak. SOLEYNE ( http://soleyne.com/ ) is a new website, that just finished up its beta testing and seems to be very promising. The mechanisms they had in place during the beta testing were good, the money they've spent to move this project forward seems appreciable, and they are already advertising. This postcard flyer is currently being disbursed at at juried art festival in Tarrytown, New York at Lyndhurst Castle. Please, if you are at all interested in this site, sign up for notification of its doors opening. You can do that at http://soleyne.com/

ok.... here is the progress on the new Art For Your Head piece, that i featured in the September 7, 2008 entry below.

The first pic shows the back and what i am needle felting into the shapes i want.... i am adding silk in a handdyed green and coral colourway. I want this to be a very 3 dimensional piece. The second pic is showing some of the beadword, (currently strung and pinned on)... i do this so that i can see where i want it to lay and how i want it to travel.... same with the front of the hat.

Art For Your Head "Ambrato"

Art For Your Head "Ambrato"

She is made from bits and pieces of fulled (felted) merino, alpaca, llama.... needle felted to achieve the 3 dimensional quality (the ridges and ruffles in the back)... I used an absolutely drop-dead gorgeous amber ("Ambrato"), honey, butterscotch, hand dyed merino as the accenting colour to the different shades of greys and browns.   The embellishment of the domed vintage wood button (very reminiscent of the contours of the hat itself) along with the handsewn Adventurine beads, makes for a wonderful focal point.  For more pics please see:  http://DreamWoven.com/HatsWrapsAlone.htm
and click on the pic.

yes... i know..... it's another hat.... please meet:

Art For Your Head "Calla in Rain"

The main portion of the hat is a mixture of Jacob and Alpaca fulled
(felted fleece)... Shaped into a form similiar to that of a Calla
Lily... it was, of course, inspired by a beautiful Calla Lily in the
rain. It is embellished with a creamy white alpaca that has been
needle felted into graceful curves. The "rain" is made from small
irregular shaped white freshwater pearls that have been individually
sewn on.
This is one that will also go into the Art Exhibit in October. I have listed it on Etsy and if it gets bought for the amount I listed it for, I will be very happy :)..... otherwise it goes into the show. More pictures can be seen at: http://DreamWoven.com/AFYHCalla.htm

Art for your Head "Forest Flowers" Hat

Here is another of my hats.... it was inspired by the small forest flowers that
can be seen when the light filters through the tall trees of the forest. Llama & Merino fulled fleece, and i handspun some merino and locks for the embellishment and added bronze freshwater pearls.

It is a bit more conservative than most of my hats.... so it really WAS a
challenge for me to finish it. I almost ditched it until my daughter looked at
it and said, "I want one like that!".....
