So... instead of doing anything that had to do with the exhibit yesterday... this is what i came up with :) and it makes me happy. I did some spinning with some Border Leicester locks that were hand dyed by Castleman.etsy.com and used them as trim for some felted wool/alpaca wrist warmers. So what that it was 105 degrees here yesterday (and today it should be 110...ugh).... someone, somewhere is cold. They are called "O'KEEFE-ESQUE Fire Poppy Wrist Warmers" ...
Available in my etsy shop.... of course.

Just finished up a custom order for a woman that wanted a cuff with detachable dreads. This one is different than the one i posted about yesterday. The dreads on this one are built on to a knitted band that is then buttoned to the inside of the wrap/cuff. I love the colour combination..... the cuff/wrap is in greens, purples and blues and the dreads are in orange, denim blue and a varigated orange to red roving.

yes... i know..... it's another hat.... please meet:

Art For Your Head "Calla in Rain"

The main portion of the hat is a mixture of Jacob and Alpaca fulled
(felted fleece)... Shaped into a form similiar to that of a Calla
Lily... it was, of course, inspired by a beautiful Calla Lily in the
rain. It is embellished with a creamy white alpaca that has been
needle felted into graceful curves. The "rain" is made from small
irregular shaped white freshwater pearls that have been individually
sewn on.
This is one that will also go into the Art Exhibit in October. I have listed it on Etsy and if it gets bought for the amount I listed it for, I will be very happy :)..... otherwise it goes into the show. More pictures can be seen at: http://DreamWoven.com/AFYHCalla.htm

Art for your Head "Forest Flowers" Hat

Here is another of my hats.... it was inspired by the small forest flowers that
can be seen when the light filters through the tall trees of the forest. Llama & Merino fulled fleece, and i handspun some merino and locks for the embellishment and added bronze freshwater pearls.

It is a bit more conservative than most of my hats.... so it really WAS a
challenge for me to finish it. I almost ditched it until my daughter looked at
it and said, "I want one like that!".....

More pics can be seen at http://dreamwoven.com/AFYHForest.htm

Inca “Healing” Hat

During the course of the year, she would travel through many villages. There she would offer her healing techniques to those in need. She was always gentle in her teachings. She was the daughter of a Shaman and understood that living in balance with life, from the sky to the earth to the wind and to the mountain, was the basis of all healing. To learn to live without fear and take responsibility for life in all forms allowed those that needed help, to help themselves. As she stopped at each village, she was always humbled by seeing the faces again, of those she had previously helped.

Inca “Eight Day Dusk” Hat

Today had been the first day of the
feast. Her throat was scratchy from the chanting that had begun at dawn
and only now slowed to a whisper as the sun sank. It had been a full
day, offerings had been made and everyone was preparing for the
harvesting of the maize crop to begin. In the dusk she breathed
quietly, watching her neighbors settle in for the evening. The moon
would rise soon. She was tired and would sleep well tonight and
tomorrow it would start again….

With another sunrise, she woke.
The mists were inching their way up over the valley. The path she had
come from yesterday was already shrouded. Today Tambomachay called to
her. The steady stream of crystalline water that welled up from the
Mothers’ depths was all she could think of as she stood, brushing off
the leaves that decided to stay with her, rather then fall back to the
earth on their own. She headed out….. taking the new day with her.

FestivalLJ2
Inca “Festival Days” Hat

She had traveled almost a full cycle
and it was coming time for the Inti Raymi Festival… the festival of the
Sun. Squatting next to the fortress she watched sunrise and gave honor
to Wiracocha. She knew the warmth she felt was the love of the sun for
all his children. She continued working on her festival hat…. Adorning
it with things from nature.
